World launches a fully onchain prediction market inside Phantom as the FIFA World Cup kicks off

World, a new onchain prediction market built natively on Solana, went live inside Phantom's wallet app on July 1, 2026, giving 20 million users instant access to event trading without leaving the app they already use.

The timing is deliberate. As the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup gets underway, World is offering traders the chance to bet on match outcomes directly from their Solana wallets, alongside markets on Bitcoin's short-term price direction. No separate app, no custodial account, no bridge to a centralized exchange. The whole thing settles onchain using CASH, a stablecoin processed via Bridge and Stripe, and winning positions are redeemable automatically inside Phantom itself.

That is a meaningful technical step forward from how prediction markets have usually worked. Polymarket, the dominant player in the space through 2024 and 2025, built its reputation on Polygon but still required users to move funds into a separate interface and relied heavily on UMA's optimistic oracle system, which left room for human arbitration disputes on close or contested outcomes. World replaces that with Chainlink Data Streams for market resolution, cutting out the human-in-the-loop layer that has generated headaches for traders on competing platforms.

Phantom's super-app push finds its moment

This launch is also, plainly, a Phantom story. According to Forbes, Phantom has been building toward a crypto super-app for most of 2026, and prediction markets are a cornerstone of that strategy. The wallet already has 20 million users, most of them on Solana, and embedding World natively means those users don't need to export a seed phrase or fund a separate account to start trading event contracts. Phantom's infrastructure disclosure confirms World as its onchain Solana prediction market provider, replacing an earlier integration with Kalshi that began rolling out in late 2025.

Kalshi was a regulated, US-based prediction market operating under CFTC oversight, which gave it legitimacy but also constrained what it could offer and to whom. World takes the opposite path: fully onchain, fully permissionless, with resolution governed by Chainlink's decentralized oracle network rather than a regulatory filing. Whether that's better depends on what you're optimizing for. Traders who want deep liquidity and regulatory assurance may still prefer Kalshi or Polymarket. Traders who want to stay inside their Solana wallet and settle instantly onchain now have a real alternative.

The market selection at launch is focused rather than exhaustive: Bitcoin price outcomes and FIFA World Cup matches, with sports, geopolitics, and macroeconomic markets signaled for later. That's the right call. Prediction markets fail when they overextend into low-liquidity niches before the core product has proven itself. Starting with Bitcoin and the World Cup gives World two of the most liquid, globally followed events on the calendar in the same week.

CASH as the settlement asset is worth watching closely. Processed through Bridge and Stripe, it introduces a familiar fiat-adjacent rails layer into what is otherwise a fully onchain product. For users, that probably lowers friction at the entry point. For the platform's long-term credibility as a truly decentralized market, it's a design choice that puts some trust back in the hands of off-chain payment infrastructure. That's not necessarily a flaw, but it's the kind of architectural tradeoff that tends to matter more as volumes grow and edge cases multiply.

Prediction markets have been trying to find their consumer moment for years. Augur launched in 2018 and never cracked mainstream usage. Polymarket got there with a clean interface and the 2024 US election as a catalyst. World is betting that native wallet integration is the next unlock: meet the trader where they already are, remove every extra step, and let Chainlink handle the disputes. As crypto wallets push toward becoming financial platforms in their own right, that bet looks reasonable.
