Solana stalls near $74 and the road to $100 still runs through the Federal Reserve

SOL is grinding in the mid-$70s, still pinned under the $77 level that has capped it all month. The Iran ceasefire that lifted risk sentiment may be the least important thing on the chart right now.

Solana's native token spent the first day of July trading around $74, opening near $75.04, dipping to $72.51, and closing at roughly $73.52, according to CoinCodex historical data. That keeps SOL inside the roughly $63-to-$80 band it has been stuck in since early June, with the month's high a touch above $76 on June 30 — well short of the $85 that some overheated headlines have floated. The $77 area remains the trigger level traders are watching, and $63 to $65 is the floor, as Coin Gabbar's July levels lay out.

The proximate reason risk assets found a bid was diplomatic. On June 17, the US and Iran signed a 14-point framework agreement — a memorandum of understanding establishing a 60-day ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, and lifting the naval blockade of Iranian ports. It was signed remotely, with Trump putting his name to it at Versailles after the G7 and Iranian president Pezeshkian signing in Tehran, per Al Jazeera's account of the memorandum. Easing supply fears took pressure off crude and gave crypto room to breathe.

That's the narrative being passed around. Here's what it leaves out.

Bitcoin did not join the party. Far from clearing new highs, BTC spent late June sliding — trading near $61,000 on June 25 and under $59,000 by June 26 — pressured by sticky inflation, Fed uncertainty, and persistent ETF outflows, as Fortune's daily price tracker shows. US spot bitcoin ETFs have bled steadily since mid-May, with billions leaving the funds. That is not geopolitical anxiety; it is allocation fatigue, and a ceasefire does nothing to reverse it. Geopolitical shocks move crypto sharply but briefly. Monetary policy and market structure move it slowly and for longer.

What $100 actually requires

Forecasters are split. MEXC's analyst desk puts SOL's July average near $98.46, with a range topping out around $100.70, in its July price-prediction piece. That is an optimistic read, and it depends on SOL first reclaiming $77 as support — something it had not done as of the start of the month. More cautious models, such as CoinDCX's weekly outlook, keep July in the $75-to-$80 band, essentially where SOL already sits.

Standard Chartered's year-end 2026 target of $250 would make $100 a waystation rather than a ceiling, according to reporting on the bank's forecast. That call rests partly on a genuine structural shift: on March 17, 2026, the SEC and CFTC jointly classified Solana — alongside Bitcoin, Ether, and thirteen other tokens — as a digital commodity rather than a security, as The Coin Republic reported. That removed a regulatory overhang that had kept some institutional allocators on the sidelines for years, and it is entirely separate from whatever Iran does next.

The ceasefire adds a specific complication. The MOU is a 60-day window, which means the geopolitical risk clock resets in mid-August. If talks stall, the same correlation that lifted sentiment runs in reverse. Traders who bought this move purely on diplomacy are betting it holds through summer, and most price models do not capture that cleanly.

If you are watching SOL, the Fed's next communication matters more than the Middle East. The ceasefire gave the broader market permission to breathe; it did not change the rate environment that has been grinding on risk assets for months. SOL at $100 is plausible if the commodity classification keeps drawing institutional capital and the Fed signals even a modest softening. SOL back at $65 is equally plausible if ETF outflows deepen and the ceasefire frays. The chart is holding, not breaking out — and the macro does not quite match the optimism yet.
