Pump.fun unlocks 10 billion tokens while its legal case quietly grows more serious

The Solana meme coin launchpad released $18 million worth of PUMP supply in June even as a consolidated class action lawsuit in New York inches toward a reckoning.

Pump.fun doesn't do quiet. On June 12, the platform unlocked 10 billion PUMP tokens worth roughly $17.98 million, adding fresh supply pressure to a token already navigating a thicket of regulatory uncertainty. For a platform that generated over $64 million in fees in April 2026 alone, representing about one-third of all Solana application revenue that month, the optics of a large insider unlock during active litigation are hard to ignore.

The lawsuit in question is a consolidated class action sitting in the Southern District of New York. Filed originally on January 30, 2025 by Wolf Popper LLP on behalf of investor Aguilar, the complaint names Baton Corporation Ltd., the UK-registered entity behind Pump.fun, along with co-founders Alon Cohen, Dylan Kerler, and Noah Bernhard Hugo Tweedale. A related suit was filed just two weeks later, and the court consolidated both cases in June 2025. Plaintiffs allege the platform operated an unlicensed securities exchange, identifying 20 specific tokens launched through it, including StakeCoin, QuStream, and DeepCore AI, as unregistered securities. The consolidated amended complaint, submitted in July 2025, dramatically expanded the defendant list. No trial date has been set; the most recent docket filing is from April 14, 2026.

That legal slowness hasn't rattled the platform's revenue engine, but it has clearly rattled its confidence in handling what comes next. In late June, Pump.fun posted a job listing for a Chief Legal Officer with a base salary ranging from $1 million to $5 million per year, an unusually candid signal that the company knows the courtroom fight ahead is serious. Co-founder Alon Cohen promoted the opening publicly. Platforms facing flimsy lawsuits don't typically offer that kind of compensation to attract legal talent.

A second unlock is already on the horizon

The June event wasn't the last supply pressure traders will face. According to data circulating ahead of the unlock, a far larger event is scheduled for July 12, when 41 percent of PUMP's total circulating supply, held by founders and early investors who acquired tokens at negligible cost, becomes tradable. That kind of cliff unlock has a well-documented history: when supply hits the market faster than demand can absorb it, price takes the hit. Retail holders who bought in at higher prices are the ones left managing the consequences.

Pump.fun is also dealing with legal pressure outside the United States. The UK has banned the platform outright. And in New York, Governor Kathy Hochul recently singled out the platform's "GO" livestreaming feature, calling it a "dystopian model", which suggests state-level regulatory attention may compound the federal civil case.

None of this has stopped the fees from flowing. A platform that captures a third of all Solana app revenue in a single month isn't operationally fragile. Pump.fun processes an enormous volume of meme coin launches, and its companion product PumpSwap adds trading infrastructure on top. The business works, at least by the numbers.

But here's the thing: revenue doesn't settle securities litigation. If the court allows the Aguilar case to proceed and tokens launched through the platform are deemed unregistered securities, the exposure runs well beyond the original $500 million fee figure. A separate class action put a $5.5 billion headline on the same set of allegations. Those numbers aren't verdicts, but they frame the stakes clearly enough.

Pump.fun built its dominance by making it frictionless to launch a token in seconds. That same frictionlessness is now the core of the legal argument against it. Whether a court agrees will say something important about how U.S. law treats automated token issuance, and traders sitting on PUMP through a July cliff unlock probably shouldn't wait for that answer before deciding what they think the risk is worth.
