PUMP jumped 9% today, and it wasn't the disposals doing it

I've spent a few of these columns this week on the less flattering side of pump.fun's finances. Today, for a change, the news actually leans the other way.

PUMP surged about 9% today, touching a monthly high near $0.00169, backed by a 61% jump in trading volume and strong buying across both spot and derivatives markets. That's not a rounding error — that's a real day of renewed appetite for the token, and it came alongside reports that pump.fun launched a new "GO" bounty platform, adding another product surface beyond the core token-launch feed.

It also landed a few days after Grayscale's Solana Growth Report, published July 4, specifically called out pump.fun as a key driver of Solana's on-chain activity — the kind of mainstream-adjacent recognition that platforms like this don't get every week. And zooming out to Solana itself: U.S. spot Solana ETFs pulled in $5.75 million of fresh inflows today, even as Bitcoin and Ethereum funds saw the opposite — real outflows on the same day.

None of this cancels out the token-unlock math I've flagged before — 82.5 billion PUMP tokens, worth roughly $134.65 million by today's price, are still scheduled to release on July 12, and the platform's ongoing habit of converting fee revenue into stablecoins hasn't stopped either. What it does mean is the picture isn't one-directional. The protocol has reportedly run over $400 million in buybacks against that same unlock pressure, and today's volume and inflow numbers suggest there's real demand showing up on the other side of the ledger, not just supply. Whether that holds past the 12th is the actual question worth watching, not today's green candle on its own.
